Hey, it’s Wes and Chanda, and welcome to Dink Life! Today, we decided to visit the Akron Zoo, one of our favorite spots in Akron. We’re members here, which means we can come anytime and enjoy the animals while getting some exercise. The admission fee for adults is usually $14, but with our membership, we only pay around $60 for the entire year, so it’s definitely worth it.
We started our tour at Komodo Kingdom, an indoor exhibit featuring Komodo dragons, turtles, and an aquarium. It’s a fascinating place to explore. Oh, and they even have a food court here.
Moving on, we ventured into the Curious Creatures exhibit, where we found a variety of aquatic creatures, including an elusive octopus. It was a treat to see it out and about. We also encountered electric eels and giant prickly stick insects, which blend in perfectly with their surroundings.
Claudia, the blue lobster, was a highlight for us. She’s quite famous around here and even featured by Ripley’s Believe It or Not. Fun fact: she was discovered at an Ohio Red Lobster restaurant!
During our visit, we reminisced about a VIP tour we took in the past, where we had the chance to give the tortoises a bath and interact with other animals. It was an unforgettable experience and worth considering if you’re in the area.
We couldn’t resist hopping on the zoo’s animal-themed carousel, a delight for kids and adults alike. Each animal on the carousel is labeled, so you know exactly what you’re riding.
Next, we made a pit stop at Grizzly Ridge, where we enjoyed some refreshments. The zoo surprised us with its selection of alcoholic beverages, and I sipped on a delicious strawberry lemonade with a shot of vodka, while Wes enjoyed a refreshing beer.
As we explored the Africa section of the zoo, we encountered a charming little train that’s powered by solar energy. It’s adorable and even makes authentic train sounds. We also took a moment to appreciate the majestic lions, a must-see attraction.
The zoo’s garden area is a hidden gem. Tucked away at the top, it offers a serene escape and is a popular location for weddings. If you’re planning a special event, keep it in mind.
Inside the Lemur building, we hoped to catch a glimpse of the playful lemurs. These furry creatures never fail to bring a smile to our faces.
Another exciting stop was the bat house, where we embraced the spooky atmosphere. The poisonous frogs and other inhabitants added an intriguing touch to the experience.
As we left the zoo, we couldn’t resist a visit to the gift shop, where we finally made a purchase. The shop had an impressive selection of merchandise, and as members, we received a 10% discount.
It was a beautiful day at the Akron Zoo, and we were thrilled to see so many people enjoying themselves. We hope you enjoyed spending the day with us, and remember, whatever you decide to do, just get out there and do it!”
