Affair on the Square – Craft & Vintage Show 2023

Hey there, it’s Wes and Chanda, and welcome to DinkLife! We’ve just had an exhilarating experience at the historic Medina Craft Festival, an annual affair that takes place on Medina’s charming Public Square. This year’s event fell on the second Sunday in August, and let us tell you, it was a whirlwind of colors, crafts, and crowds. The festival is a one-day extravaganza that gathers craft enthusiasts and local vendors to showcase their creative products. We arrived at 10:45 a.m., just 15 minutes before the official opening time of 11 a.m., and already, the square was abuzz with a lively crowd.

This festival, known for its diverse array of crafts, draws people from all around to explore the handcrafted wonders on display. The vibrant scene behind us was filled with stalls offering everything from vintage t-shirts to intricate ceramics. It’s amazing to witness the sheer variety of items on sale. Whether it’s quirky bottle art, or even a dose of pop culture with Wu-Tang and Marvel merchandise, there’s something here to captivate every visitor’s interest.

However, while the festival promises a day of creative inspiration and delightful shopping, it does come with its challenges. The historic square itself is undoubtedly charming, but it’s also quite narrow. With vendors lining both sides, the space can quickly become overwhelming, especially when combined with the influx of eager shoppers, families with strollers, and even dog owners out for a day with their furry companions. As we made our way through the throngs of people, we couldn’t help but notice the limited room to move around.

As seasoned festival-goers, we’ve attended this event for nearly a decade, and this year marked a record in terms of sheer attendance. The place was packed, and while we managed to pick up some pickles and macaroons from our favorite spots, we couldn’t shake the feeling that perhaps the event’s popularity has started to outgrow its infrastructure. Despite the challenges, we believe that the Medina Craft Festival still holds a unique charm, showcasing local artisans and crafters that deserve recognition. So, if you’re planning to attend next year, brace yourself for the excitement, and don’t forget to arrive early!
