Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) & behind the Screams Tour 2023

Chanda and I recently had the chance to attend the “Unmasking the Horror” tour at Universal Studios, opting for the three-house tour. This tour was a unique opportunity to explore haunted houses with the lights on and learn about their intricate design and special features. It set us back $119.99 per person for the three-house tour, and we later found out the six-house tour costs $169.99 per person. While we weren’t allowed to record the tour, we managed to capture some photos and videos of various rooms inside the haunted houses. We also discovered some fascinating facts, such as the extensive year-long planning and construction process that goes into creating these spooky attractions.

Our journey began with the first haunted house, inspired by the video game “The Last of Us.” Inside, we uncovered hidden game-related details and Easter eggs. The second stop was “The Darkest Deal,” a haunt themed around blues musicians who made Faustian bargains for fame. Chanda and I were both impressed by the meticulous attention to detail in these haunted houses. Our final destination was “Dr. Odd Fellow’s Twisted Origins,” a circus-themed haunt with a spine-chilling twist. We also recommended catching the “Nightmare Fuel Revenge Dream Show,” although we couldn’t record it. We learned that arriving early is key for securing a good seat.

Overall, our experience at Universal Studios’ “Unmasking the Horror” tour was eye-opening and provided us with valuable insights into the creative process behind these haunted houses. Despite the somewhat steep cost, it proved to be an exceptional Halloween event that we thoroughly enjoyed.
