Deck the Hall at Stan Hywet 2023

Hey, it’s Wes and Chanda, and welcome to DinkLife! We find ourselves in Akron, Ohio, at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens. For those unfamiliar with the area or Stan Hywet, it’s the historic home of the F. A. Seiberling family, founder of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. The mansion has been turned into a tourist spot, and it’s particularly enchanting during the holidays. They host an annual event called “Deck the Halls,” where the mansion is themed differently each year. This year’s theme is “Traditions,” and we’re excited to explore the festive decorations.

The mansion, with its rich history, is a must-visit spot. Although we can’t take you inside due to restrictions, we’ll share pictures and take you along the beautifully decorated grounds. Stan Hywet is not just a house; it’s an experience. One of our favorite traditions is starting the tour with an adult beverage from Molly’s Country Cafe. The cold weather makes it a perfect way to kick off the festivities.

As we walk through the grounds, we admire the displays. The mansion itself, reminiscent of a scene from the movie Clue, is decorated differently each year, making every visit unique. After our tour through the main house, themed “Traditions” this year, we explore the expansive grounds adorned with dazzling lights, making it a spectacular sight.

We venture into the conservatory, filled with captivating plants and a mesmerizing display of cacti. The greenhouse feels magical, especially with the added touch of lasers.

Wrapping up our visit, we enter the gift shop, filled with unique finds. Stan Hywet’s Deck the Halls event is not only visually stunning but also a testament to the rich history and holiday spirit. Even on a Wednesday night, the atmosphere is delightful, and the $20 admission fee is well worth the experience. As we leave, we can’t help but appreciate this hidden gem in Akron, urging everyone to explore and enjoy the festive season at Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens.
