McKinley Presidential Library, Museum, & Monument 2023

Hey, it’s Wes and Jay, and today we took a stroll down memory lane at the McKinley Monument and Museum in the heart of Canton, Ohio. The iconic 108 steps leading up to the monument became an unexpected tribute to the classic Rocky training scenes, with locals incorporating them into their daily fitness routine. Although the monument itself was closed on this particular day, our visit to the museum unearthed a trove of nostalgic treasures and insights into the city’s rich history.

The museum, with its $13 admission fee per person, turned out to be a hidden gem in Canton. The top floor transported us back in time with a meticulously reconstructed late 1800s Street of Shops. From vintage storefronts to period-appropriate displays, the exhibit provided a vivid and immersive journey through Canton’s vibrant past. The Discovery World section, although showing a bit of wear and tear from its 30-year history, retained a certain charm, with interactive displays sparking curiosity and a friendly guide sharing intriguing tidbits.

The museum’s highlight was undoubtedly the detailed exploration of President William McKinley’s life, offering a deeper understanding of his contributions to the nation. Even though some exhibits showed signs of aging, the McKinley Museum delivered an enriching and enjoyable experience. The behind-the-scenes glimpse into the museum’s workings, complemented by warm interactions with the staff, added a personal touch to our visit.

For anyone exploring Canton, the McKinley Museum stands as not just a repository of artifacts but a testament to the city’s evolution over the years. Our nostalgic journey through the museum, coupled with the unexpected delights it offered, made the $13 admission fee a worthwhile investment in local history.
