Show Description: Dee Dee Allen is a pivotal character in “The Prom.” This seasoned Broadway actress, alongside character Barry Glickman, initially presents as a self-absorbed and somewhat narcissistic individual, a depiction that faces criticism from The New York Times when their Broadway show, “Eleanor!: The Eleanor Roosevelt Story,” closes on its opening night. Driven by the need to enhance their public image, Dee Dee and Barry (along with characters Trent and Angie) decide to champion a cause, revealing their altruistic sides as they journey to Edgewater, Indiana, to support Emma, a lesbian student facing discrimination related to her high school prom. Dee Dee’s character undergoes significant development, transitioning from a desire to salvage her reputation to becoming deeply involved in Emma’s struggle for acceptance. This transformation includes moments of self-discovery, marking a shift from self-centered motives to a sincere commitment to making a positive impact.
