Hey, it’s Wes and Chanda, and welcome to DinkLife! We’re in Williamsburg, Virginia, specifically at Busch Gardens. We visited here a few years ago during Christmas, but only a few rides were open. Although we enjoyed that visit, we knew we had to come back when everything was operational. The last time Chanda visited was in 2008, and Wes’s last visit was in the ’80s, excluding our Christmas trip. We pre-purchased fast passes since we weren’t sure how busy it would be, but given the park’s size and numerous attractions, it seemed like a smart choice, even though it was a bit pricey at $130 for unlimited access to most rides and one-time access to a few high-end coasters.
We started our day by heading down to the entrance and checking out the park map. One of our first rides was the newly refurbished Loch Ness Monster. Neither of us had ridden it before, and while the track was a bit rough, the new elements, including a long tunnel with projections of the monster, were fantastic. Next, we rode Griffon, the park’s dive coaster. Chanda first experienced it in 2008, and it was just as thrilling this time around. The smoothness, inversions, and scenic views from the top were breathtaking.
We then tried invade, the park’s wooden coaster built in 2018, which crisscrosses with the log flume, adding a unique element to the ride. Although a bit rough, it offered a good layout. Following that, we rode Alpengeist, an inverted coaster with excellent theming and a thrilling experience. Later, we tried Verbolten, a launch coaster that travels through the Black Forest with a surprise in the dark, making it one of our favorite rides of the day.
Busch Gardens was hosting their Food and Wine Festival during our visit, and we sampled various delicious dishes. The hush puppies from the Virginia booth were delightful, and the giant meatballs and Lo Moco from the Hawaii booth were highlights. The festival added an extra layer of enjoyment to our visit.
Our final ride was Pantheon, the multi-launch coaster. It was incredible, with intense airtime and smooth inversions, quickly becoming one of our favorites. Overall, we had an amazing day, exploring the park, enjoying the rides, and indulging in the Food and Wine Festival. Busch Gardens Williamsburg remains a top-notch destination, and we highly recommend it to everyone. As always, whatever you decide to do, just get out there and do it!
