Exploring Our First Day in London: Soho Adventures and a Nightcap at Cahoots

Hey, it’s Wes and Chanda from DinkLife, and after a long, long journey, we’ve finally made it to London! After being awake for so many hours, we needed a little coffee kick just to keep us upright. We were so tired that lying down in the middle of Oxford Street actually sounded tempting! But with some caffeine in our systems, we managed to shake off the travel fatigue and dive right into exploring the city. Our first stop? Oxford Circus and Carnaby Street, where we had lunch at one of our favorite spots, Mother Mash. This place is all about comfort food – mashed potatoes, savory pies, sausages – and it’s delicious. Chanda’s tried to recreate it at home, but there’s just something special about the way they do it here. Plus, it’s really affordable, which is always a bonus in London.

As we wandered around, we stumbled upon Third Man Records – a huge surprise since we thought they only had a location in Nashville and Detroit! We checked out some of the shops we don’t see in the States, with a few familiar names thrown in, but they all had that unique London vibe. Liberty, the iconic department store, was another stop on our mini-tour. We found a LEGO model of the building, complete with the little boat on top, which was such a cool detail. From quirky shops to street art and pubs, the area had something new and interesting at every corner. Carnaby Street’s vibrant signs and retro feel had us captivated, and we even found a Rolling Stones shop – talk about a store for everything!

Later, we ventured into Kingly Court, a hidden gem filled with food spots and cafes, including a Korean place that looked fantastic. The night ended with an incredible experience at Cahoots, an underground bar with a unique 1940s vibe, styled like an old subway station. Reservations are a must here, and there’s a 90-minute limit, but it’s worth it for the immersive atmosphere and friendly staff. We even made some new friends who sat next to us, and we got so wrapped up in conversation that we forgot to record an outro. Meeting locals is one of our favorite parts of travel, and these two were just fantastic.

That first day, even though we were exhausted, we just soaked up the London energy and enjoyed the slower pace. We’re already planning to come back, so if you have any favorite London spots, let us know! We’d love to add them to our list. And as always, whatever you do, just get out there and do it!
