Hey, it’s Wes and Chanda! We made our way to TeamLab Planets Tokyo, an immersive digital art exhibit that’s been all over travel guides and vlogs. After watching a few videos, we knew we had to experience it for ourselves. The ticket price was around $35 USD per person, which felt like a great deal considering similar experiences back home can cost much more. One thing we were really looking forward to was the water exhibit, where you actually have to take off your shoes and wade through knee-high water. It sounded so unique, and we couldn’t wait to see what it was all about!
From the moment we stepped inside, the exhibits completely transported us. The Athletics Forest had uneven terrain that made us feel like we were walking through a dream, and the Infinity Crystal Universe was breathtaking—mirrors and lights reflected endlessly, making it feel like we were floating in space. One of our favorite parts was the interactive digital exhibit, where we got to color our own animals and release them into the exhibit. Watching them come to life and move across the walls was surreal! Then came the water room—warm, glowing, and absolutely beautiful. Walking through it felt like stepping into another dimension, and the constantly shifting floor textures made the experience even more immersive.
The final section was filled with real hanging orchids that moved as we walked through. The scent of fresh flowers filled the air, and with mirrors surrounding us, it felt like an infinite floating garden. It was so peaceful and unlike anything we’d ever seen before. Compared to immersive exhibits like Meow Wolf in the U.S., this one felt much more sensory-driven and artistic rather than chaotic and overwhelming. One big tip: don’t wear a skirt or dress here! With all the mirrored floors, it’s easy to have an unintentional wardrobe mishap. They do offer loaner shorts, but if you’re like us, you might not love the idea of wearing shared clothing.
After two hours, we left feeling like we had just stepped out of a dream. If you’re in Tokyo, we highly recommend checking this out it’s totally worth the trip. Just be sure to book your tickets ahead of time, since it’s a popular attraction even early in the morning. Remember, as always, whatever you decide to do, just get out there and do it!
