Chanda and I finally made it to Hong Kong Disneyland, and we couldn’t have been more excited to start exploring. We arrived early, unsure of how the park handled opening procedures, but everything ran smoothly. The shuttle bus from our hotel was quick and comfortable, much larger than the ones we’re used to in the U.S., and dropped us off within minutes. Security was also a breeze—no metal detectors, just a quick bag check. As we walked up to the entrance, we were greeted by a beautiful fountain with Mickey surfing on top of a whale, setting the stage for a magical day ahead.
Once inside, we made a beeline for some of the park’s unique attractions, starting with the Jungle Cruise. It had a few differences from its American counterparts, with updated animatronics and a fun finale, though we were slightly disappointed that there was no classic “backside of water” moment. Next, we headed to Mystic Manor, which completely blew us away. Since traditional ghosts aren’t part of Chinese culture, this ride offered a fresh take on the Haunted Mansion concept, featuring an adorable monkey named Albert, incredible trackless technology, and some of the best effects we’ve seen in any Disney attraction. It was an absolute must-do.
We spent the rest of the day exploring Grizzly Gulch, Toy Story Land, and the brand-new World of Frozen, where we enjoyed a surprisingly well-organized and beautifully presented meal at the Golden Crocus Inn. Tomorrowland had some impressive Marvel-themed reskins, like the Iron Man Experience and Ant-Man & The Wasp Nano Battle, both of which we really enjoyed. Hyperspace Mountain turned out to be an unexpectedly smooth ride, much better than its Paris counterpart. We wrapped up the night with Momentous, the park’s nighttime spectacular, which had stunning projections, especially during the villain segment. While it didn’t hit us emotionally the way some Disney shows do, it was still a fantastic way to end the day.
Spending a full open-to-close day in the park was rare for us, but Hong Kong Disneyland made it easy. The park was incredibly clean, the rides were unique, and the atmosphere felt fresh and exciting. We’re planning to return tomorrow for a half-day to check off the last few things on our list before catching our flight. If you’re visiting, don’t worry about getting Premier Access—it wasn’t necessary, even on a busy day. Overall, it was an amazing first visit, and we can’t wait to share more about our experience in the next post!
