How We Flew to Shanghai for Shanghai Disney – Tips, Scares & Success!

We’re sitting in the lobby of our hotel in Shanghai, sipping drinks and still catching our breath from one of the most stressful and rewarding travel mornings we’ve had yet. We flew into Shanghai from Hong Kong on China Eastern, which turned out to be a surprisingly great experience. Big seats, huge bathrooms, full breakfast, and alcohol included and all for about $150 a person!

The stress came in at the airport. Because we were traveling under the 10-day visa-free policy (called a transit visa), we had to prove everything upfront our departure city, assigned seats out of China, and hotel details. One airline rep tried to deny us boarding because she couldn’t find our ticket numbers, but after some panic and a chat with her manager, we got cleared and made it on the flight. The customs process in Shanghai was actually a breeze faster than anywhere else we’ve traveled.

We also wanted to shout out our amazing taxi driver, who met us at the airport, helped us into our hotel, and even scheduled to drive us back all included in the original fare. That kind of hospitality made our arrival smooth and special. Shanghai itself has been incredible so far. The city is clean, safe, welcoming, and incredibly affordable. We got two full bowls of soup and tea at Disney Town for just $13!

So if you’re thinking about visiting Shanghai or Shanghai Disney and you’re unsure about the visa situation or the process, don’t stress. Be organized, follow the rules, and you’ll have a wonderful time like we have. We’re just getting started and can’t wait to share more.
