Hey it’s Wes and Chanda and welcome to DinkLife! We recently made a very last-minute decision to head to Universal Studios Hollywood after finding out the first-ever Universal FanFest was still happening. What started as a spontaneous idea turned into one of our most memorable park experiences ever. FanFest focuses on fandoms like Star Trek, Dungeons & Dragons, and most importantly for us, Back to the Future. As longtime fans, we couldn’t pass up the chance to walk through Hill Valley itself!
We arrived early to take advantage of lower crowds and shorter ride times, which allowed us to enjoy attractions like the Studio Tour, Jurassic World, and Revenge of the Mummy before the FanFest officially kicked off. Ticketing for FanFest can be a bit confusing, but our tip is to go for the early entry option instead of shelling out for express passes—it gave us extra time to explore and was worth every penny.
When FanFest began, it was everything we hoped for and more. Walking through the movie set where Back to the Future was filmed, dancing at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance, and taking photos with the DeLorean and Einstein had us feeling emotional and overjoyed. We also checked out the Dungeons & Dragons and Star Trek experiences, both of which were impressively produced and full of interactive storytelling.
As we wrapped up our 12-hour day at the park, we were filled with gratitude for the experience. Universal FanFest was immersive, nostalgic, and genuinely exciting. If Universal brings it back next year, it’s a must-see for fans of any kind. Remember, as always, whatever you decide to do, just get out there and do it!
