Hey its Wes and Chanda and welcome to DinkLife. We spent the weekend in Chicago and made our way over to the Shedd Aquarium, which is one of the easiest spots to reach once you hop off the subway. Even with the construction on the outside, we eventually made our way around to the temporary entrance and headed in with our timed entry tickets from CityPASS.
Once inside, we explored everything at our own pace. The otters, stingrays, sea stars, and underwater viewing areas were great, and we caught some really cute moments like the otter popping out of the water and the staff doing a quick feeding. We made our way through sections filled with eels, bright reef fish, giant crabs, and even baby jellyfish. Every room had something new to see, and a few creatures were unlike anything we had ever come across in other aquariums.
We spent a long time in Amazon Rising and Wild Reef, where the tanks were huge and full of life. We didn’t watch the dolphin show or any of the paid 3D experiences, but even without them we easily filled over two hours. The CityPASS made scheduling simple and saved us quite a bit on the total cost, so it was absolutely worth using for this visit.
Before heading out, we walked through the massive gift shop. Prices were definitely on the higher side, but we still grabbed our traditional magnet to remember the visit. Overall, this was a great aquarium with plenty to explore, and I’m glad we came back so I could see things I didn’t remember from years ago. Remember, as always, whatever you decide to do, just get out there and do it!
