Hey its Wes and Chanda and welcome to Dinklife
We had just returned from an unforgettable trip through Ireland and wanted to share all the little things we learned along the way. Before leaving, we watched plenty of travel videos, but there were still so many surprises once we arrived. From using public transportation in Dublin to figuring out toll roads and gas stations, we quickly realized there were several travel tips nobody had really explained. We spent time exploring Dublin, Galway, and the Irish countryside while learning how different travel in Ireland could feel compared to the United States.
One of the biggest challenges we faced was driving in Ireland. While driving on the opposite side of the road sounded intimidating, the real challenge turned out to be the narrow roads and aggressive local drivers. We rented a car so we could explore smaller towns and scenic areas, but we quickly learned that rental car insurance in Ireland is expensive and unavoidable. We also discovered that parking in Dublin was difficult, public transportation was easier than expected, and some of the toll systems worked much differently than we anticipated.
During the trip, we also noticed a lot of differences with hotels and dining. Many hotels had smaller rooms, limited air conditioning, and no washcloths, which seemed common throughout Europe. We loved trying traditional Irish comfort food, visiting local pubs, and meeting some of the friendliest people we had ever encountered while traveling. Some of our favorite experiences included visiting Sean’s Bar, exploring Trinity College, touring the Micil Distillery, and spending time with locals at Phil Ryan’s and The Legal Eagle.
Looking back, we absolutely loved Ireland and would go back again without hesitation. The scenery, history, and people made the entire experience unforgettable. Even though there were stressful moments with driving and travel logistics, the trip gave us some incredible memories and plenty of stories to tell. Hopefully these Ireland travel tips help make your own adventure smoother and a little less surprising.
Remember, as always, whatever you decide to do, just get out there and do it!
