We recently had the incredible opportunity to ride aboard the iconic Goodyear Blimp, something that had been on our bucket list for years. Even after more than 25 years working at Goodyear, I had never been selected for a ride. When my name was finally drawn in a raffle, we knew this was an experience we could not pass up. We headed out to the Wingfoot Lake hangar on a beautiful Ohio day, excited to see if the experience lived up to the hype.
Before our flight, we explored some of the history of the blimp and watched as it returned to the hangar area. Once aboard, we were amazed by how comfortable and spacious it felt. As we lifted into the sky, we enjoyed breathtaking views of Akron, Portage Lakes, the Goodyear headquarters, and many other familiar landmarks throughout Northeast Ohio.
One thing that surprised us was how different the flight felt compared to an airplane. The blimp moved gently through the air and offered incredible visibility in every direction. Even though Chanda’s afraid of heights, she quickly settled in and enjoyed every moment. We also learned a few helpful tips from the pilots, including why morning flights often provide the smoothest ride conditions.
By the end of the day, we both agreed that this was truly a once in a lifetime experience. From the amazing crew to the unforgettable views, every part of the adventure exceeded our expectations. If you ever get the opportunity to ride on the Goodyear Blimp, we highly recommend taking it. Remember, as always, whatever you decide to do, just get out there and do it!
