Hey its Wes and Chanda and welcome to Dinklife. We moved into the next phase of our kitchen renovation, and this time it was all about getting ready for our new quartz countertops. Before the installers arrived, we had plenty of work to do. We needed to remove the old backsplash, take out the existing countertops, disconnect the sink and plumbing, and make sure the kitchen was completely ready for installation day.
I started by tearing out the old backsplash tile. I scored the grout lines with a multi tool and carefully worked on removing one tile at a time. Some of the cement board and wall surface came off along with the tile, so I went back through and filled the damaged areas with mud. It took several coats to get everything smooth enough for the new backsplash. I also had a few other jobs to handle after our new flooring installation, including trimming the vents and cutting down the pantry door so everything would fit correctly.
Once we reached counter installation eve, it was time for the big job. I removed the drawers, found the screws holding the old countertops in place, disconnected the sink, shut off the water, and took apart the drain plumbing. One section of countertop was too large to easily get out of the house, so I cut it into smaller pieces. With everything removed, the kitchen looked pretty strange without countertops, but we were finally ready for the new quartz to arrive.
The new countertops completely changed the look of the kitchen. After the installers finished, I installed the new faucet, hooked the water lines back up, and modified our existing drain plumbing so it would work with the new sink. We had a small delay when the installers realized the sink had been forgotten, but it was delivered and everything worked out. The installation turned out great, and our kitchen was another huge step closer to being finished. Remember, as always, whatever you decide to do, just get out there and do it!
